Americans and Marijuana: Fact vs. Fiction

The onward march of widespread cannabis legalization continues to pervade much of North America. At the time of this writing, cannabis has been legalized for recreational use within 18 states as well as Washington D.C. Medical cannabis brings up the total of cannabis-friendly states to 36. It is clear that there is a very real culture shift currently ongoing and as a result, many myths about marijuana are being busted in the process.

Let’s take a look at a few common myths and misconceptions about cannabis so that you can better understand the benefits of this natural wellness solution.

Myth: Cannabis is Unpopular.

Reality: nearly 90% of Americans are in favor of some step toward cannabis legalization, at least according to a survey conducted by the Pew Research Center in 2021. The vast majority of adults polled in the survey showed overwhelming support for both medicinal and recreational use. Only 8% of respondents believe that cannabis should remain actively illegal for both medicinal and recreational use.

What’s more, we can see that there is both a generational gap and a political shift behind how respondents feel about cannabis. Adults over the age of 75 were more than 3x likely to believe that cannabis should remain illegal. Nearly 70% of adults under the age of 30 were in favor of full cannabis legalization.

Misconception: Cannabis is Dangerous

A 2019 National Survey targeting drug use and health information revealed that only 46% of U.S. adults admit to utilizing marijuana. This number falls far short of alcohol (sitting at 80%) and tobacco (sitting at 61%). Despite the disparity between cannabis use and alcohol/nicotine, cannabis continues to bear the vast brunt of misinformed rhetoric.

The bottom line, according to researchers at Healthline, is simple: nobody has ever died from overdosing on cannabis by itself. Bad reactions typically involve drinking water, relaxing, and waiting for the effects to wear off. On the other hand, alcohol directly contributes to more than 261 deaths every single day.

Reality: Party Lines Split Cannabis Popularity

While there are very few bipartisan issues that the American people will collectively agree upon, cannabis remains one of the closest subjects to achieve that broad acceptance. A research study conducted by the PEW Research Center in April of 2021 revealed that Democrats approved cannabis legalization over conservatives by a 72% to 47% margin. Similar shifts also appear within different age gaps with younger voters favoring outright legalization.

How Long Do Edibles Stay In Your System?

How Long Do Edibles Stay In Your System?

An edible is any product that mixes THC with some type of food or beverage. These can be THC gummies, cookies, or even soft drinks. These products range from having far less THC than smokable cannabis to a much more concentrated dose. Legal cannabis retailers offer a wide menu of THC edibles.

So, how long do edibles stay in your system?

How Long do Edibles Stay in Your System?

There’s two things we need to talk about here: the high and metabolizing THC. Let’s start with how long the effects of an edible can last.

It typically takes somewhere between 30 minutes to 2 hours for an edible to “kick in.” Edibles typically have their effects peak around 4 hours later. Primary effects of the high can last for up to 12 hours depending on the dose and your biology. Secondary effects can last for as long as 24 hours.

Now let’s look at how long the detectable THC stays in our bodies.

How Our Bodies Metabolize Edibles Differently Than Smokable THC

THC has a way of “sticking” with certain parts of the body. This is how drug tests can detect trace amounts of cannabis in our systems. Here’s a quick breakdown of different types of drug tests and how long they can detect THC from edibles.

  • Blood – Typically no more than 4 hours

  • Saliva – 1 to 3 days

  • Urine – Anywhere from 3 to 30 days

  • Hair – Up to 90 days

Considering Cannabis Edibles by the Dosage

THC edibles are a popular choice as they dodge some of the health impacts of smoking. Many cannabis retailers have even started THC delivery services that can bring these products right at your door.

How long THC stays in your system can depend on how much you ingest. Here’s one type of THC dosing that leaves the smallest amount of cannabis in your system.

Microdosing is a popular way to enjoy edibles. Microdoses range from 1mg to 5mg. This is a great choice for beginners or for people looking to have some light improvement for anxiety, pain relief, and even a mild creative boost.

Advice for Drug Tests

Drink lots of water. That’s the best advice for someone who has an upcoming drug test and who might also have THC in their system. You can also purchase a detox kit, but those have mixed results.

Top Strains for Increasing Your Appetite

Top Strains for Increasing Your Appetite

There are few experiences more closely tied to cannabis use than the midnight munchies. Hunger-boosting terpenes can have even the most ardent smokers reaching for their favorite snack or sweet treat. Even though the endocannabinoid system will change how each individual person reacts to terpenes, munchies are a common enough occurrence in a variety of common strains.

If you are looking to induce your appetite, consider the following strains on your next visit to the All Greens Dispensary!

Top Strains For Appetite

While the exact reason for cannabis-related munchies is still unclear, many researchers suggest that THC interacts with a hormone in our body that increases both our sense of smell and our sense of taste. For these reasons, individuals struggling from a lack of appetite can find their way to a fulfilling meal with their favorite cannabis products.

Listed below, you’ll find four of our favorite strains for increasing your appetite.

Wedding Cake

A classic strain for every Hybrid lover, Wedding Cake comes from a potent cross featuring Triangle Kush and Animal Mints. Your first hit of Wedding Cake will hit with a creamy sweet flavor that quickly unveils peppery notes beneath. Wedding Cake is ideal for medicinal patients as it provides appetite stimulation, pain relief, and even relief from insomnia. Soaring THC content ensures a psychoactive experience that leaves you reaching for your favorite munchies at all hours of the day.

Thin Mint GSC

Also known by Thin Mint or Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookies, this powerful strain comes from a potent cross featuring OG Kush and Durban Poison. Imbued with purple hues, this dark green flower has a powerful full-bodied hybrid effect that provides appetite stimulation, pain reduction, and even nausea relief.

Pineapple Express

Named after more than just the funniest stoner comedy of our generation, Pineapple Express is a Sativa-driven hybrid that provides an energizing buzz that packs a punch, induces your appetite, and even provides some semblance of pain relief. A great early-morning strain, consider reaching for a pre-roll of Pineapple Express before making your breakfast.

OG Kush

Considered one of the legendary strains of the cannabis world, OG Kush is a remarkable flower that comes from Northern California. This Indica-dominant hybrid has parental lineage raced back to powerhouse strains like Pakistani Kush and Chemawg, providing a true powerful appetite-stimulating effect before leading to restful sleep.

Celebrities Are Pushing Biden to Issue Mass Marijuana Pardons

Celebrities Are Pushing Biden to Issue Mass Marijuana Pardons

Given that laws regarding marijuana use are slowly being changed all over the country, many people are calling for changes to the criminal justice system as well. In particular, many people’s attitudes regarding those who are in jail or prison for marijuana-related charges are becoming more understanding and lenient. The entertainment realm is no exception. There are quite a few celebrities who believe that it is unfair to keep these people behind bars, despite the fact that the drug is slowly being legalized, grown, sold, and regulated by the government. With that in mind, let’s take a look at how the celebrity world is reacting to this issue.

Approximately 150 Celebrities Have Spoken

Although Killer Mike has become a well-known political activist over the years, other celebrities such as Drake, Deion Sanders, Kevin Garnett, and many others have mostly remained silent on such matters. However, the notion that many minorities and others are in prison for a drug that is already legal in several states seems to be the tipping point for a large group of celebrities and public figures. In fact, a group of over 150 stars, law enforcement professionals, athletes, and scholars all signed a letter that was recently delivered to president Joe Biden.

The Gist of the Letter

In a nutshell, the letter called for a “full, complete, and unconditional pardon” for all non-violent offenders who have federal marijuana convictions. In other words, public figures from all walks of life have decided that it is unfair to force these people to serve their entire sentences, despite the fact that marijuana is on the verge of being legalized and many people in corporate America, as well as the government, have already started cashing in on this lucrative opportunity.

Pointing out that the “war on drugs” seems to have done more harm to minority communities, especially, these celebrities have come together for one common cause. The letter was not only an attempt to urge President Joe Biden and his administration to reconsider marijuana laws and release non-violent marijuana offenders, but it was also written to remind Biden of the fact that he used marijuana decriminalization as a central talking point during his campaign; a promise he is expected to make good on, sooner than later.

What’s the Hold-Up?

As Sen. Bernie Sanders pointed out, President Biden has the power to end federal marijuana prohibition. Given that he essentially promised to do so during his campaign, many people are wondering what’s taking so long. No matter what Biden’s reasoning is, it seems that this is becoming an issue that he can no longer afford to ignore.
